This is your final warning. American Express UK's enhanced welcome bonuses close tonight (13th January 2026), and after that, we're back to the standard offers – which are significantly less generous.
If you've been sitting on the fence about applying for The Platinum Card or the Preferred Rewards Gold, now is genuinely the time to make a decision. These offers won't be coming back anytime soon.
What's Ending Tonight
Let me break down exactly what you could be missing out on:
The Platinum Card – 85,000 Points + £250 Travel Credit
Through our link, you can get 85,000 Membership Rewards points (the public offer is 75,000). You'll also receive £250 in American Express Travel credit – this is money you can spend on flights, hotels, car rentals, or entire holiday packages through Amex Travel Online.
The spending requirement is £6,000 within the first three months. Yes, that's quite a lot, but if you've got business expenses, travel bookings, or large purchases coming up, it's very doable. Plus, you can add a supplementary cardholder and their spending counts towards your target.
After tonight, the standard offer drops to just 50,000 points with no travel credit. That's a difference of 35,000 points and £250 – roughly £600 in total value just vanishing.
Preferred Rewards Gold – 45,000 Points, First Year Free
The Gold Card is currently offering 45,000 points via referral (40,000 public) when you spend £5,000 in six months. The kicker? There's no annual fee in the first year, making this essentially free money.
The standard bonus after tonight? Just 20,000 points. You'd be leaving 25,000 points on the table – that's 25,000 Avios, which could easily cover a return flight to Europe in business class.
What Can You Actually Do With These Points?
Membership Rewards points are incredibly flexible. Here's what you could convert 85,000 points into:
85,000 Avios – enough for a return Club World flight to New York with change to spare
85,000 Virgin Points – perfect for Upper Class to the Caribbean
85,000 Flying Blue miles – great for Air France La Première availability
Multiple hotel loyalty currencies including Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, and more
You can use our Avios calculator to see exactly how far your points could take you.
Do You Actually Qualify?
This is crucial, so pay attention:
For the Platinum Card: You qualify if you haven't held any other personal Amex card that earns Membership Rewards points (Platinum or Gold) in the past 24 months. Importantly, BA Amex cardholders DO still qualify for the Platinum bonus.
For the Gold Card: You qualify if you haven't held any personal American Express card at all in the past 24 months. BA Amex holders do NOT qualify for this one.
Business Amex cards don't affect your eligibility for personal card bonuses – they're treated completely separately. And if you've only been a supplementary cardholder on someone else's account, you're still eligible.
Not sure what you're eligible for? Check out our Amex welcome bonus eligibility tool.
Think Outside the Box
Even if you don't qualify, consider this: could your partner apply? Your adult children? Your parents?
If any of them are in your British Airways Executive Club household account, those points can be pooled together. The new cardholder could issue you a free supplementary card on their account, and your spending would count towards triggering their bonus.
The Platinum Card: Is £650 Worth It?
The annual fee sounds steep, but let's do the maths with this welcome offer:
85,000 points = ~£850 in travel value (conservatively)
£250 Amex Travel credit = £250
£200 UK dining credit (£100 per half year) = £200
£200 international dining credit = £200
Two Priority Pass cards with unlimited lounge access = easily £200+ per year
Hotel elite status (Marriott Gold, Hilton Gold, Radisson Premium) = variable but valuable
That's already well over £1,500 in first-year value against a £650 fee. And critically, Amex offers pro-rata refunds if you cancel, so there's minimal risk if you decide it's not for you after a few months.
As a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium member myself, I know how much value hotel status delivers. Room upgrades, late checkouts, and bonus points really do add up across multiple stays throughout the year.
My Personal Take
I'll be honest with you – these are genuinely excellent offers by UK standards. We don't often see bonuses this high, and when we do, they don't last long.
The Gold Card at 45,000 points with no first-year fee is an absolute no-brainer if you qualify. You're literally being paid to try the card with zero risk.
The Platinum Card requires more consideration given the £650 fee, but if you travel frequently – particularly if you don't already have airline lounge access – the Priority Pass benefit alone can justify a significant chunk of that cost.
I hold the Amex Platinum Business myself, which gives me similar perks including Hilton Gold status. Combined with my British Airways Gold status, I've got pretty comprehensive lounge coverage. But for those without airline status, the personal Platinum is genuinely compelling.
What About Business Cards?
Worth noting: the enhanced Business Platinum (120,000 points) and Business Gold (60,000 points) offers ended back in October. The current standard offers are still solid – 50,000 points for Business Platinum and 20,000 for Business Gold – but not as spectacular.
The good news? Following a rule change in 2024, if you're accepted for any business Amex, you WILL receive the sign-up bonus. No ifs, no buts. It doesn't matter what other Amex cards you have or recently had.

The Clock Is Ticking
Applications must be approved by tonight (13th January 2026) to qualify for these enhanced bonuses. After midnight, we're back to the standard offers.
If you're going to apply, do it now. Don't leave it until 11:59pm and risk a technical glitch ruining everything.
Apply for the Platinum Card: Get up to 85,000 points + £250 travel credit
Apply for the Gold Card: Get up to 45,000 points, first year free
Whatever you decide, make sure it's an informed decision rather than just letting these offers slip away through inaction.
Happy collecting,
Jack
