✈️ Smart With Points

  • 💳 Credit Card News: BA Amex cards boosted to 50,000 Avios sign-up bonus (until Feb 24)

  • ✈️ Airline News: Wizz Air launches 'Wizz Class' premium seating from £43

  • 🏨 Hotel News: IHG offers 100% bonus on points purchases through Feb 5

  • 💳 Status Match: Flying Blue reopens BA status match offer (£79-£249)

Well, this is interesting timing.

Just when British Airways loyalty seems to be softening (and believe me, I'm hearing about it from readers), Amex has rolled out some genuinely attractive sign-up bonuses across all three BA cards. We're talking 50,000 Avios on the Premium Plus, 40,000 Avios on the Business card, and even a doubled bonus on the free card.

The catch? You need to move relatively quickly — these offers end February 24th, and you can't have held the relevant card type in the past 12-24 months.

But here's where it gets interesting: this could be the start of a pattern. When loyalty programmes face pressure, bigger bonuses become the easy answer. And with everything BA's changed recently, I wouldn't be surprised to see more offers like this throughout 2026.

💳 BA Amex Cards Get Serious Bonus Boosts

American Express has quietly launched enhanced sign-up bonuses across all three British Airways cards, and they're available until February 24th, 2026.

Here's the catch you need to know immediately: these offers aren't visible on the Amex site. You must go through the British Airways website to see them. Navigate to the credit cards section, and you'll find the enhanced bonuses waiting.

Let's break down what's on offer:

BA Premium Plus (£300/year): Spend £6,000 in three months and you'll receive 50,000 Avios — that's up from the usual 30,000 bonus. The card earns 1.5 Avios per £1 normally, or 3 Avios per £1 on BA and BA Holidays spending.

The real prize here is still the Companion Voucher. Spend £15,000 in a card year and you'll earn one that works on all cabins — including Club World and First. That's where the proper value lives.

Quick value check: Let's say you book two Club World seats to New York. A single redemption would cost around 50,000 Avios plus £350 in taxes per person. With the Companion Voucher, you're paying for one person in Avios and the second for just the taxes. That's roughly £1,000+ in saved value from the voucher alone.

Heads up: You must not have held a BA Amex card in the past 24 months to qualify for this bonus.

BA Amex Credit Card (free): If £6,000 spend sounds too ambitious, the free card now offers 10,000 Avios when you spend £2,000 in three months — double the usual 5,000 bonus.

The card earns 1 Avios per £1, and there's also a Companion Voucher available at £15,000 spend, though this one only works for Economy redemptions.

The limitation: You can't have held any personal Amex card in the past 24 months. That's a wider restriction than the Premium Plus.

BA Accelerating Business Card (£250/year): For business owners, this card now delivers 40,000 Avios when you spend £5,000 in three months, up from 30,000.

The ongoing earn is strong: 1.5 Avios per £1, plus an extra 10,000 Avios for every £20,000 spent (up to three times per year). You also earn double On Business Points when booking BA flights.

The restriction here is shorter: you can't have held an Amex Business card in the past 12 months.

Bottom line: These are some of the strongest BA Amex bonuses we've seen. If you've been sitting on the fence about getting one of these cards, this is probably your window. The Premium Plus with 50,000 Avios and the Companion Voucher remains the standout for most people who can meet the spend requirement.

And honestly? I suspect this won't be the last time we see enhanced bonuses this year. BA needs to keep cardholders engaged, and bigger sign-up offers are one of the easiest levers to pull.

✈️ Wizz Air Launches 'Business Class' (Sort Of)

Wizz Air has joined the growing list of budget carriers experimenting with premium products, launching a new offering called Wizz Class.

Let's be clear upfront: this is not Club Europe. It's not even close. But for a budget airline, it's an interesting move.

Here's what you get:

  • A blocked middle seat (so you get a guaranteed empty seat next to you)

  • Complimentary snack and non-alcoholic drink

  • Dedicated overhead compartment space

  • Front row seating (though you'll still pay the seat selection fee)

What you don't get: lounge access, fast-track security, or any loyalty programme benefits. Wizz Air doesn't have a frequent flyer scheme, so you won't be earning miles on these flights.

The routes are limited for now — Budapest, Bucharest, Warsaw, Luton, Gatwick, and Rome Fiumicino. Fares start at £43, though pricing is dynamic and will fluctuate based on demand.

The booking process is a bit convoluted. You first need to select either Wizz Smart or Wizz Plus (which already include benefits like a 10kg cabin bag and priority boarding). Then you add your details, and only after that can you see if Wizz Class is available on your route.

My take: This is clearly aimed at business travellers flying routes where BA or other full-service carriers don't operate, or where Wizz's schedule is significantly more convenient.

If you're travelling on a Wizz route anyway and value the extra space, £43 isn't unreasonable for a blocked middle seat and some snacks. But if you have lounge access through a credit card or programme, you can at least use that independently.

Just don't expect it to replace proper European business class. It won't.

🏨 IHG's 100% Points Bonus Is Back

IHG is running its best points purchase offer again: a 100% bonus when you buy 5,000 points or more. The sale runs until February 5th, 2026.

This offer comes around fairly often, so if you've seen it before, you're not imagining things. But it's still worth running the numbers if you're planning an IHG stay.

Here's the pricing breakdown:

  • 5,000-10,000 points: £5.04 per 1,000 points

  • 11,000-25,000 points: £5.39 per 1,000 points

  • 26,000-200,000 points: £4.83 per 1,000 points

With the 100% bonus, you're effectively getting double the points. So if you buy 100,000 points at the top tier, you'll pay around £483 but receive 200,000 points.

The key is to always compare the points rate to the cash rate before you buy. Look up the hotel you're considering and check both the cash price and the points price. Then calculate whether buying points works out cheaper.

Quick example: Let's say a hotel costs £150 per night in cash or 40,000 points per night. If you buy 40,000 points (receiving 80,000 with the bonus), you'd pay roughly £193. That means you're paying more than the cash rate — so buying points wouldn't make sense.

But if that same hotel costs £250 per night in cash, suddenly buying points at £193 for the same stay saves you £57. That's when it works.

Warning: IHG is also running a cash sale on stays until January 21st, which might reduce the value of buying points for those specific properties. Always check both options.

You can purchase up to 200,000 points per calendar year (some targeted members may have higher limits). The offer is available now through the IHG Buy Points page.

⚡ Quick Hits

  • BA to Flying Blue Status Match Returns: Flying Blue has reopened its status match offer for BA Executive Club members living in the UK. You can match BA Bronze to Flying Blue Silver for £79, BA Silver to Flying Blue Gold for £149, or BA Gold to Flying Blue Platinum for £249. The matched status lasts 12 months and gives you access to SkyTeam benefits. If you're flying Air France or KLM regularly, this could be worth exploring — particularly for lounge access.

  • Marriott Introduces Partial Elite Night Credits: Marriott has improved how Elite Night Credits work across four brands that previously required two nights for one credit. You'll now earn 0.5 Elite Night Credit per qualifying night at City Express by Marriott, Four Points Flex by Sheraton, Protea Hotels by Marriott, and Series by Marriott. Two separate one-night stays now combine into a full Elite Night Credit, even at different hotels within those brands. Small change, but helpful if you're chasing Marriott Bonvoy status.

  • Lufthansa Group Airlines Adding Free Starlink Wi-Fi: Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines are rolling out Starlink Wi-Fi across their fleets, with free access for all passengers. The rollout started this month and will continue through 2025-2026. If you're flying long-haul with any of these carriers, this is a genuinely useful upgrade — particularly for business travellers who need reliable connectivity.
