Here's one I didn't see coming. Capital on Tap has just announced a partnership with Virgin Red, allowing cardholders to transfer their points directly into Virgin Points. This opens up a whole new world of redemption options beyond Avios, including Virgin Atlantic Flying Club flights, Virgin Voyages cruises, and Virgin Limited Edition hotel stays.
The Transfer Rates
The rates are straightforward and, for Pro cardholders, genuinely competitive:
Capital on Tap Pro cardholders: 1 Capital on Tap point = 1 Virgin Point
Capital on Tap Free cardholders: 10 Capital on Tap points = 8 Virgin Points
There's no minimum transfer requirement, which is a nice touch. Transfers are usually instant but can take up to 48 hours.
How to Link Your Accounts
The process is simple:
Log in to your Capital on Tap online portal
Link either your Virgin Red account or your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club account
Transfer your points when you're ready to redeem
You'll need to be a member of Virgin Atlantic Flying Club if you want to use your points for reward flights. If you're not already a member, it's free to join.
Capital on Tap's Growing Transfer Options
This is now the third airline points currency you can transfer Capital on Tap points to:
British Airways Avios (via BA Executive Club)
Qatar Airways Avios (added in October 2025)
Virgin Points (new)
For Pro cardholders, all three offer a 1:1 transfer rate. For Free cardholders, the rates vary slightly but Virgin Points at 10:8 (effectively 0.8 points per CoT point) is competitive. We covered the Qatar Airways partnership when it launched last year.
When Should You Choose Virgin Points Over Avios?
This is the million-point question. Here's my take on when Virgin Points might make more sense:
Virgin Atlantic's sweet spots include transatlantic flights, particularly to destinations like New York, Los Angeles, and Miami where they compete directly with BA. During sales, you can often find Upper Class redemptions for surprisingly reasonable points.
Virgin Points also unlock Virgin Voyages cruises, stays at Necker Island and other Virgin Limited Edition properties, plus various Virgin Red rewards that Avios simply can't access.
That said, Avios remains the more versatile option for most UK travellers thanks to the massive oneworld alliance network and partnerships with Qatar Airways. If you're primarily interested in short-haul European flights or long-haul destinations not served by Virgin Atlantic, Avios is still the better bet.
Earning Virgin Points from Business Spending
The beauty of Capital on Tap is that it's designed for small business spending. Whether you're paying for software subscriptions, office supplies, or business travel, every pound spent earns points that can now be converted to Virgin Points.
Pro cardholders earn 1 point per £1 spent, which translates to 1 Virgin Point per £1 when transferred. That's equivalent to the earning rate on the Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Credit Card (1.5 points per £1 on Virgin purchases, 0.75 points elsewhere) but without the annual fee for the Free card version.
My Take
I've been a Capital on Tap cardholder for years (I actually have two cards), and this partnership adds genuine flexibility. While I typically transfer my points to British Airways Avios given my Gold status and frequent use of the oneworld network, having Virgin Points as an option is valuable.
There's a practical benefit here too: diversification. If BA Avios availability is poor for a route you want to fly, or if Virgin Atlantic is running one of their periodic points sales, you now have an alternative path to premium cabin redemptions.
The fact that there's no minimum transfer requirement is particularly useful. You can move points over as and when you need them, rather than having to accumulate a large balance first.
One Thing to Note
Once you transfer points to Virgin Points, the conversion cannot be reversed. It's always worth checking award availability before transferring, especially for specific travel dates. Tools like Roame.Travel or Seats.aero can help you search for Virgin Atlantic award space before committing your points.
The Bottom Line
Capital on Tap continues to punch above its weight as a small business credit card for points collectors. With three airline transfer partners now available (BA Avios, Qatar Avios, and Virgin Points), it's become a genuinely flexible option for funding your travel ambitions through everyday business spending.
If you're not already a Capital on Tap cardholder and run a UK business, it's worth considering. You can apply here to get started. The Free card has no annual fee, while the Pro card (£299/year) offers enhanced earning rates and additional perks.
