🚀 Major Positive Changes to the Aer Lingus Credit Card

Plus Boost Your Avios x6 with Qatar Airways and Fly Smarter with Flighty

Hello, Adventurous Travellers, and Happy Thursday!

This week, we have two ways to earn plenty of Avios. Boost x6 with Qatar Airways or earn up to 43,333 by meeting the €10,000 annual spend with the new, improved Aer Lingus credit card.

Let's get started:

  • 🚀 Major Changes to the Aer Lingus Credit Card: Including better Avios earning rates, new benefits, and a generous spend bonus.

  • 🎯 Boost Your Avios Up to 6x with Qatar Airways: Double what you can boost with British Airways.

  • 📱 Fly Smarter with Flighty + £50 Discount: Discover how the Flighty app can help you fly smarter with real-time updates and how to save on your subscription.

Changes to the Aer Credit Card by Aer Lingus

If you live in the Republic of Ireland, you're in luck. There will soon be some big changes to the Irish Aer Lingus Credit Card! The changes mean this card will have the best benefits and highest Avios earning potential out of all the UK Avios earning credit cards.

At the moment, there are lots of benefits to having the card, but you won’t earn many air miles from it.

These amazing benefits will replace the old benefits and come into effect on 23rd October:

  • A signup bonus of 5,000 Avios

  • Multi-trip worldwide family travel insurance.

  • 1 Avios per €3 spent (the current card has 1 Avios per €4 spent).

  • Two fast track and priority boarding passes each year.

  • Two lounge passes. Passes can be used at Aer Lingus lounges in Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Belfast.

  • A 40,000 Avios annual spend bonus when you spend €10,000.

This is by far the best benefit. With the 1 Avios per €3 spent, you could earn 43,333 Avios every year just by meeting the minimum spend.

This is also better than the current two-free flight benefit because you can choose how to spend your points, whether that's on two or more short-haul flights or saving for a bigger trip.

You can also use Avios to book reward flights on other Oneworld airlines like Finnair and British Airways rather than only being able to redeem 'free flights' with Aer Lingus.

If you already have the card and decide to stick with it through the changes, you will receive a one-off loyalty bonus of 5,000 Avios on 7th January 2025.

If you're interested, the card costs €6.50. To be eligible for the card, you must have been a resident of the Republic of Ireland for six months or more.

Boost Your Avios Up to 6x with Qatar Airways

You can now boost your Avios by six times with Qatar Airways.

230,500 Avios for £2784.44. No other options are available because the maximum limit is 250,000 Avios. Each Avios is purchased for £0.012

This is double the current 3x boost offer with British Airways. You can also boost Avios earnt within the last three months as opposed to 30 days with BA.

Boosting Avios with BA. Each Avios is bought for £0.096.

With BA, Avios can be bought via a boost from £0.092, depending on how many Avios you’re boosting. The Qatar example above shows that Avios can be bought for £0.012, which is a cheaper rate, AND you can boost up to 6x.

With British Airways, boosting Avios is usually the best value compared to buying Avios outright or getting an Avios subscription (although you'll only be able to collect the points monthly and not get them all at once).

Boosting Avios works the same way as Qatar Airways, although you will need to credit the transactions to your Qatar Privilege Account, meaning you won't be able to earn BA tier points.

Notes and Terms:

  • You can boost a maximum of 250,000 Avios each year.

  • You must have a minimum of 500 Avios to boost

  • Some transactions are excluded from boosting, including gifted Avios, Avios balance transfers and bonus Avios.
