Qatar Airways Privilege Club is about to make a major change to how you redeem Avios for other people. From early June 2026, a new feature called My List will restrict award flight bookings to a named circle of pre-approved individuals - and once you have set your list, it is locked in for six months.
For UK-based Avios collectors who transfer points from British Airways Executive Club to Qatar Airways for premium cabin redemptions, this is a significant shift. The days of casually booking a Qatar Airways reward flight for a colleague or extended family member using your Avios are effectively over.
What Is Qatar Airways My List?
My List is a new feature within Qatar Airways Privilege Club that lets you nominate up to four other Privilege Club members for whom you can redeem your Avios on award flights. Those nominees must be adults, must hold their own Privilege Club account, and must accept your invitation before they can be added.
Once someone is on your list, they stay there for a minimum of six months. You cannot swap people in and out freely. Only you, as the list owner, can use your Avios to book for the people on your list - they cannot log into your account and book on your behalf.
How It Works Alongside Family and Friends
Qatar Airways Privilege Club already has a Family and Friends feature, which lets you add up to six people who do not hold a Privilege Club account. These two systems are separate, and members who are part of a Family and Friends group cannot also be added to someone else's My List.
Combined, this means you can redeem your Qatar Airways Avios for a maximum of 10 named individuals: four Privilege Club members via My List, plus six non-members via Family and Friends.
New Account Restrictions That Matter for UK Collectors
Qatar is also introducing controls aimed at newly created accounts. Two rules stand out:
30-day My List delay: A new Privilege Club account cannot access the My List feature until it has been active for at least 30 days.
30-day BA linking delay: A new Privilege Club account cannot be linked to a British Airways Executive Club account for 30 days. This is particularly relevant for UK collectors who create a Qatar PC account specifically to receive Avios transfers from BA.
Why Qatar Is Doing This
Qatar Airways has framed these changes as security enhancements to combat fraudulent Avios redemptions. The programme has reportedly seen issues with stolen or improperly acquired Avios being redeemed for third parties at scale. By requiring named, pre-approved recipients with a six-month lock-in, Qatar is making it far harder for bad actors to exploit the system.
What This Means for You
If you regularly transfer Avios from British Airways to Qatar Airways Privilege Club for premium cabin redemptions - one of the best-value uses of Avios from the UK - you will want to think carefully about who you add to your My List when the feature goes live in June.
Plan your list carefully. With a six-month lock-in and only four slots, choose wisely. You cannot easily swap someone out if your travel plans change.
Ensure your nominees have Privilege Club accounts. My List members must hold their own Qatar Airways Privilege Club account, so get friends and family signed up now if they have not already.
New accounts need patience. If you or your travel companions are creating fresh Privilege Club accounts, factor in the 30-day waiting period before you can link to BA or use My List.
Existing bookings should be unaffected. The new rules apply from June onwards, so if you have award flights already booked for third parties, those should stand.
The Bottom Line
Qatar Airways Avios redemptions remain some of the best value available to UK points collectors, especially for business class flights to Asia and Australia. But the Privilege Club is trading flexibility for security with these My List changes. If you have been transferring Avios to Qatar to book for others, June 2026 marks the point where you will need to be far more deliberate about it.
We recommend setting up your My List as soon as the feature goes live, and making sure the people you are most likely to book for are ready with their own Privilege Club accounts.
