SAS EuroBonus has quietly launched a paid status match for British Airways The Club members across Europe — and with fees starting at just €39, it's worth a few minutes of your time to work out whether it makes sense for you. The offer is available now, runs until the end of March 2026, and is capped by quota, so if you're interested, don't sit on it.
What's on offer?
Through StatusMatch.com, SAS is giving British Airways The Club members the option to match into one of three EuroBonus tiers — Silver, Gold, or Diamond — for a corresponding fee of €39, €79, or €159. Eligibility is open to BA Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Gold Guest List holders based in Europe (Great Britain is explicitly included in the eligible countries list).
Importantly, this is a paid match — not a free one. SAS is no longer doing complimentary status matches the way it did back in 2024 when it was switching from Star Alliance to SkyTeam. This time around, you choose the tier you want and pay accordingly. Whether your BA status level entitles you to a specific EuroBonus tier, or whether you can simply pick any tier regardless of your starting point, isn't entirely clear from the promotional materials — so check the eligibility criteria carefully on the StatusMatch page before paying.
One important limitation to note upfront: matched status does not count towards lifetime Gold or Diamond with EuroBonus, and the member giveaway card benefit is excluded. Everything else comes with the territory.
How long does the matched status last?
Status is valid for the remainder of your current EuroBonus membership year, plus 12 months. So if your EuroBonus membership year ends in June 2026, a successful match approved today would give you status through to the end of June 2027. After that initial period, standard EuroBonus requalification criteria apply — meaning you'd need to earn enough level points through flying or other activities to retain it.
If you don't yet have a EuroBonus account, you'll need to create one before applying. The processing time can be up to 10 business days from approval by StatusMatch.com before the status appears in your EuroBonus account.
Wait — isn't SAS Star Alliance? What happened there?
This is the bit that trips a lot of people up. SAS left Star Alliance in September 2024 and joined SkyTeam — the same alliance home to Air France, KLM, Delta, and Korean Air, among others. So EuroBonus status no longer gives you Star Alliance benefits. Instead, EuroBonus Gold and Diamond translate to SkyTeam Elite Plus, and EuroBonus Silver equates to SkyTeam Elite.
That's a meaningful distinction when you're deciding whether this match is worth it. If you were hoping for Star Alliance lounge access — say, on a Lufthansa flight — this won't give you that. But if you regularly fly Air France, KLM, or Delta, SkyTeam Elite Plus is genuinely useful: you get lounge access when flying SkyTeam, priority check-in and boarding, and extra baggage allowances.
Who should seriously consider this?
The sweet spot here is probably EuroBonus Gold for €79, which gives you SkyTeam Elite Plus. If you fly Air France or KLM even semi-regularly — perhaps on a European leg or a transatlantic hop where you can't get a good oneworld option — Elite Plus means lounge access, priority lanes, and a more comfortable experience without burning any points.
SkyTeam is also the alliance that Virgin Atlantic participates in via its Flying Club programme, which is worth knowing if you're already embedded in the Virgin ecosystem. That said, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold status (which many BA Gold holders will have already status matched into) already gives you meaningful Virgin and SkyTeam benefits.
If you have BA Bronze status and are wondering whether Diamond for €159 makes sense — probably not, unless you have very concrete upcoming SkyTeam travel plans. The match doesn't fast-track you towards any long-term EuroBonus status and you'd need to earn it through flying to retain it. It's a lot of money for a status badge you might not use.
My take
Personally, as a BA Gold holder I'm already matched into Flying Blue Platinum (which is SkyTeam Elite Plus on Air France and KLM), so this particular offer doesn't add much for me. But I appreciate that not everyone will be in that position — and for a BA Gold or Silver holder who hasn't yet explored the SkyTeam route, €79 for Gold-level SkyTeam status isn't an unreasonable ask, especially if you have Air France or KLM flights planned in the next 12 months.

How to apply
Head over to sas.statusmatch.com and select the British Airways match option. You'll need a EuroBonus account number to proceed, so sign up for free first if you don't have one. The campaign runs until end of March 2026 or until the quota is filled — whichever comes first — so if you're interested, now is the time to check it out.
As always with these things: read the full terms, verify what tier you're actually eligible to match into, and make sure you have upcoming travel that will actually make use of the status before parting with any money.
