✈️ Smart With Points
• 💳 Amex Platinum: Centurion Lounge guest access drops from 2 guests to 1 from 8th July - same-flight rule also introduced
• ✈️ Qatar Airways: Double QPoints on Business and First class flights - but you must book by this Tuesday 22nd April
• 🏨 Hilton Sale: Up to 25% off stays across Americas and Asia-Pacific when you book via the app before 1st June
• ✈️ Virgin Atlantic: Reward flight taxes and fees now standardised across all cabin types as of early April 2026
Amex just handed UK Platinum cardholders a meaningful downgrade - and the timing is awkward, given how much the annual fee has crept up in recent years.

💳 Amex Just Cut Centurion Lounge Guest Access for UK Platinum Holders
From 8th July: One Guest Only, Same Flight Required, and a New Stopover Time Limit
This is the change UK Amex Platinum holders have been quietly dreading. From 8th July 2026, American Express is tightening Centurion Lounge access rules for UK-issued Platinum and Business Platinum cardholders. The changes affect lounges in London Heathrow, the US, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Melbourne, and Sydney.
Here's what's actually changing - there are three separate restrictions stacking on top of each other:
Guest cap drops from 2 to 1: You can currently bring two guests into the Centurion Lounge. From 8th July, that falls to just one. A family of four is still fine if the second adult holds a supplementary Platinum card - but a family of five or more will be turned away.
Same-flight rule: At present, you can take anyone into the lounge regardless of where they're flying. Going forward, your guest must be travelling on the same flight as you. No more meeting a friend airside and treating them to breakfast.
Stopover access capped at 5 hours: If you're transiting and trying to access the lounge during a stopover, you'll only be able to enter within five hours of your onward flight. There's currently no time limit for stopovers. For all other flights, the existing three-hour pre-departure access rule stays unchanged.
*"These changes will kick in from 8th July."*
- American Express UK Platinum cardholder communication
Heads up: Cardholders from other countries visiting the same lounge may have different access rules - so the Centurion Lounge at Heathrow could look quite different depending on which market your card was issued in. It's not a global standardisation; it's UK-specific tightening.
The Centurion Lounge at Heathrow Terminal 3 has won 'Best UK Independent Airport Lounge' at the last two major loyalty awards - so the crowding issue is real, and Amex is clearly trying to manage numbers without raising the fee again. But for families or frequent guest users, this is a genuine downgrade.

✈️ Qatar's Double QPoints Offer - but the Booking Window Closes This Tuesday
Earn Status at Half the Usual Speed on Business and First Class Flights to June
Qatar Airways has launched a double QPoints promotion for Privilege Club members, and it's genuinely useful if you're flying Business or First class in the next couple of months - but you need to act fast.
The deal: earn double QPoints on Qatar Airways Business and First class flights, for travel between now and 16th June 2026. The catch is that you must book by this Tuesday 22nd April to qualify. The promotion is open to Silver, Gold, and Platinum status members.
Why does this matter? Because doubling your QPoints effectively earns you status in half the usual time. If you've been hovering just below a tier threshold and have a Qatar flight already planned, registering now costs nothing and could push you into the next status band with the same itinerary.
Qatar has been ramping its schedule back up significantly since mid-March - operating over 135 departing flights from Doha daily as of this weekend, with 150+ destinations confirmed from 16th June. The expanded timetable runs through to 15th September 2026. Demand is clearly there, and this promo feels like Amex trying to pull forward bookings while the window is open.
You can use our Qatar Avios Award Flight Finder to check availability if you're planning a redemption alongside a paid fare. For all our Qatar coverage, see our Qatar Airways stories.
🏝️ Virgin Atlantic Standardises Reward Flight Taxes - and the Numbers Are Worth Knowing
Fees No Longer Vary by Points Spent - So the Cheapest Redemptions Now Cost the Same as the Expensive Ones
As of early April 2026, Virgin Atlantic has changed how taxes and fees work on Virgin Points reward flights - and it's a structural shift worth understanding before your next redemption.
Previously, the fees you paid varied depending on how many points you were spending on the booking. Now, the charges are the same regardless of how many Virgin Points you use. The taxes and fees still vary by route, cabin, and direction of travel - ranging from around £60 up to over £700 on long-haul routes - but the points element of the booking no longer changes what you pay in cash.
In practice, this means if you were booking a cheaper (lower points) reward seat, you'll now pay the same fees as someone in the same cabin paying more points. On routes where fees are high - like Upper Class to the US - this is worth factoring into your value calculations before you transfer Membership Rewards or Avios across.
Our Virgin Atlantic Points Calculator helps you work out value per point once fees are factored in - worth a look before any big redemption. For full coverage of Virgin Points, see our Virgin Points stories.
🚨 Deal Alert: Aer Lingus Doubles Tier Credits on Lowest Fares - Worth Knowing if You're Chasing Status
Since the start of April 2026, Aer Lingus has doubled the Tier Credits earned on its cheapest Saver and Smart fares. European Saver fares now earn 15 Tier Credits each way (previously 7.5), while transatlantic Smart fares now earn 50 Tier Credits each way (previously 25). These changes are already live on eligible flights.
Heads up: This only applies to the lowest-earning fare types - if you normally book higher fares, nothing changes. But if you regularly pick up cheap Aer Lingus tickets and have been frustrated that status felt out of reach, you can now earn it in roughly half the flights. Worth checking if your next Dublin, Cork, or transatlantic booking qualifies. See all our Aer Lingus coverage for more.
🚨 Deal Alert: Hilton Sale - Up to 25% Off Stays in the Americas and Asia-Pacific
Hilton has launched a sale covering stays at participating hotels across the US, Canada, Mexico, Japan, China, and Asia-Pacific. Hilton Honors members who book through the app or website can save up to 25% off - but the booking deadline matters: book by Sunday 1st June for up to 20% off, or by this Tuesday 22nd April for the full 25%. Valid stay dates extend through to early 2027 depending on your destination.
Warning: The 25% rate requires booking by this Tuesday - so if you've been eyeing a US, Japan, or Asia-Pacific trip later this year, this is the time to lock it in. The sale stacks with Hilton Honors points earning as normal. Check all our Hilton Honors coverage for more ways to maximise stays.
🌎 Trivia Reveal
The answer is 🟡 Heathrow Terminal 3, opening at 5:30am. The Centurion Lounge at Heathrow T3 is the only Centurion Lounge in the UK - and it opens at 5:30am sharp. Anyone who's been there right on opening will know the breakfast buffet is completely untouched. From 8th July, you'll only be able to bring one guest with you - and they'll need to be on the same flight.
💬 Quick Question
The Centurion Lounge guest policy change is a real one - but does it actually affect how you use your Amex Platinum? Do you regularly bring guests, or does the benefit mostly go unused for you? Hit reply - I read every response and I'm genuinely curious how many of you this hits in practice.
That's it for today - but don't forget: Qatar's double QPoints booking window closes this Tuesday 22nd April. If you have a Business or First class Qatar flight coming up before 16th June, register now - it costs nothing and could push you into the next status tier for free.
