American Express has given the UK Platinum Card a wellness makeover. From today, Platinum Cardmembers can enrol in three new Platinum Wellness benefits - a lululemon credit, an Oura credit and a free Calm Premium subscription - which Amex values at up to £350 a year combined.
The launch email landed in my inbox this morning, and my first reaction was a raised eyebrow. A travel card handing out money off yoga leggings? But dig into the terms and there's real value here for the right person - plus a couple of catches that will definitely trip people up. Here's everything you need to know.

What you get with Platinum Wellness
WHAT // There are three parts, and each works differently. All three need enrolling before you spend, and all three run until 19 October 2029 unless Amex pulls them earlier.
Benefit | What you need to do | What you get | Resets |
|---|---|---|---|
lululemon | Spend £150+ (one or more purchases) at a participating UK store or lululemon.co.uk | £75 statement credit | Every 6 months (1 Jan and 1 Jul) |
Oura | Spend £300+ in a single transaction at ouraring.com | £150 statement credit | Once per calendar year (1 Jan) |
Calm | Enrol via the Amex Experiences App | Calm Premium subscription (retail £49.99 a year) | Ongoing to Oct 2029 |
The lululemon and Oura credits are enrolled in the benefits section of your Amex account (or by calling the number on the back of your card). Calm is the odd one out: it can only be enrolled through the Amex Experiences App.
WHY IT MATTERS // For years the UK Platinum has been a travel card with a dining credit bolted on. In the US, Amex went all in on lifestyle credits back in September 2025 - including up to $300 a year at lululemon and $200 towards Oura - alongside a fee rise to $895. UK cardholders have now got a slimmer version of the same idea, and there's no mention of any change to the £650 UK annual fee in the launch.

The fine print worth reading twice
I've been through the full terms so you don't have to. These are the bits that matter:
Enrol first, then spend. Purchases made before you enrol don't count, and a refund on a pre-enrolment purchase can even knock a credit back off your statement.
lululemon and Oura are primary cardholder only. Spend on a supplementary card doesn't count. Calm is the exception - supplementary Platinum cardholders can claim their own subscription too.
The Oura credit needs one basket of £300+ at ouraring.com. Not two smaller orders, not Amazon, not John Lewis. It must also be delivered to the UK and paid in pounds. The monthly Oura membership on its own will never get you there.
lululemon means UK stores or lululemon.co.uk only. Outlets are excluded, as are gift cards bought online and orders through third parties or delivery apps. Amex has published a list of participating stores.
Use it or lose it. Nothing rolls over, and Amex recommends buying at least a day before a period ends, as last-day transactions may not be captured. Credits can take up to 30 days to appear.
It's spend-to-get, not free money. £75 back on £150 is effectively 50% off - brilliant if you were buying anyway, pointless if you weren't.
Business Platinum gets Calm only. Business Platinum cardholders can claim the free Calm Premium subscription, but the lululemon and Oura credits are for The Platinum Card only.
💡 WHAT TO ACTUALLY DO
Enrol in all three today - two in your Amex account, Calm in the Amex Experiences App. It costs nothing and protects you from spending before you're set up.
Use your first £75 lululemon credit before 31 December. The current six-month window ends then, and a fresh £75 starts on 1 January. Two credits in ten weeks - Christmas presents sorted.
Thinking about an Oura ring? Buy direct at ouraring.com in one £300+ order. Buy before 31 December and you could claim another £150 on a second purchase in 2027.

My take
I'll be honest - my first instinct was that this is the US Platinum playbook arriving in the UK, just scaled down. And it is. The UK pots are smaller (£150 a year at lululemon and £150 at Oura, versus $300 and $200 in the US), but so is the fee, and the UK gets Calm thrown in.
The thing I keep coming back to is the psychology. Credits with a minimum spend are designed to send you shopping with Amex's partners. The trick is to only count them at full value if you'd have spent the money anyway. Take Oura: the Ring 4 launched at £349, so with the credit you'd pay about £199. That's a great price - but it's roughly what the same ring has sold for on Amazon in a Prime Day sale (£199.99), and Oura's membership costs £5.99 a month on top. If you were already planning to buy one, it's a genuine win. If you weren't, it's a nudge, not a saving.
The bigger picture is more interesting. Earlier this month Amex extended the £400 Global Dining Credit to June 2029. Add up to £350 of wellness on top and the UK Platinum now carries up to £750 a year of credits against a £650 fee - before you count lounges, hotel status or the travel insurance. On paper, the card pays for itself. In practice, only if these partners already fit your life.
If I'm picking holes, I'd have preferred something travel-shaped. UK Platinum holders lost Lufthansa lounge access on 1 October, and a wellness credit doesn't replace that for someone who mainly holds this card for the airport. But Calm alone being free for you and a supplementary cardholder is a nice touch that costs you nothing.

My verdict
A nice extra for existing cardholders, but not a reason on its own to apply. If you already hold Platinum, enrol in all three now - even if you only ever use Calm, it's £49.99 of value for two minutes in an app. The lululemon credit is the easiest to use, and the timing means you can grab two of them before February.
If you've been on the fence, the credits do make the £650 fee easier to swallow. You can apply for The Platinum Card here - the standard public offer is 50,000 Membership Rewards points (which convert 1:1 to Avios) after spending £6,000 in three months. Run our Amex welcome bonus eligibility tool first, as you won't get the bonus if you've held a personal Membership Rewards card in the last 24 months. Credit is subject to status - check the current terms and representative APR on Amex's site before applying.
On Business Platinum? It's Calm only for now - still worth two minutes to enrol. I'll update this piece if Amex adds the lululemon or Oura credits to the business card. And if you snag a bargain with the new credits, tag us on Instagram - I'd love to see what you go for.
