The promotion runs from 9 July 2026 to 23:59 BST on 16 July 2026 (so the final day to purchase is tonight, Wednesday 15 July). Purchases and gifts of Avios made via the Avios.com buy page during this window will automatically attract the 40% bonus.

The price of Avios varies depending on your account's registered country. For UK-based accounts, the effective price works out at approximately 1.69 US cents per Avios after the 40% bonus is applied. In EUR-registered accounts the rate is slightly higher at around 1.73 US cents per Avios, and US accounts land at roughly 1.64 US cents.

Let's put some real numbers on this. With GBP/USD currently close to 1.27, that 1.69 US cents per Avios equates to roughly 1.33p per Avios for UK buyers. So buying 50,000 Avios (the base amount, before your 40% bonus tops it up to 70,000) would cost you approximately £665. The full 200,000-Avios annual cap purchase (yielding 280,000 Avios with the bonus) would cost around £2,660.

As a rough benchmark, many UK points enthusiasts value Avios at somewhere between 1p and 1.5p each for short-haul Reward Flight Savers. Buying at 1.33p and redeeming at 1p is not a good deal. But if you can consistently extract 1.5p+ per Avios - for example on long-haul business class redemptions or by using a 2-4-1 companion voucher - the maths can start to work in your favour.

For context: a one-way London to New York in Club World (business class) prices at around 50,000 Avios plus taxes. If you value that redemption at £600 or more, you are getting more than 1.2p per Avios - still below the 1.33p purchase price. On a 2-4-1 voucher, however, you effectively halve the Avios cost, dropping your break-even to well under 1p - and that is where buying Avios can genuinely pay off.
