IAG Loyalty — the organisation behind Avios — has just launched a limited-time double Avios promotion with LeShuttle, the passenger car service that whisks you through the Channel Tunnel between Folkestone and Calais in just 35 minutes. The short version: book before 8 March 2026 and you can earn up to 12 Avios per £1 spent — double the usual rate.

If you're already planning a summer road trip to France (or anywhere in Europe, really), this is worth factoring in when you book your crossing.

Let me be honest — LeShuttle isn't typically the first thing that comes to mind when I'm thinking about Avios earning. But the numbers here are genuinely decent.

A return crossing on a Standard ticket during summer can easily run to £150–£250+ depending on when you travel. At 6 Avios per £1, that's 900–1,500 Avios on a £150 return — not life-changing, but a nice bonus for something you were booking anyway. If you're splashing out on a Flexiplus ticket (which includes priority boarding, premium lounges and the flexibility to travel on any crossing), 12 Avios per £1 starts to feel like a meaningful return.

The real value I see here is for families or groups heading to France by car this summer who were going to take the tunnel regardless. Earning Avios on top costs you nothing extra, and those points can go towards flights you'd otherwise be paying cash for. LeShuttle adopted Avios as its rewards currency last year, which means you can also redeem Avios for vouchers towards a crossing. Prices start from 1,000 Avios for a £5 voucher. I'll be upfront — that's not a particularly glamorous redemption compared to, say, business class to New York. But if you have a small pile of Avios that wouldn't stretch to a flight, it's at least a practical use of them.

For those who haven't used it, LeShuttle is genuinely one of the more pleasant ways to get to France. You drive your car onto the train at Folkestone, sit in or around your vehicle for 35 minutes, and drive off in Calais. No airport-style queues (generally speaking — though peak summer times can get busy), no luggage restrictions, no boarding pass faff. Pets travel with you, which for dog owners in particular is a huge plus.

Departures run up to four times per hour at peak times, and it operates 24/7, 365 days a year. For spontaneous travel, that flexibility is hard to beat.

This isn't the most headline-grabbing Avios promotion I've ever seen, but it's a genuinely useful one for anyone planning to drive to Europe this year.
