✈️ Flying Blue Just Devalued Business Class Awards - Without Raising the Price

Lounge access gone, flexibility gone, same mileage cost
From 8 September 2026, Air France and KLM's Flying Blue programme is introducing three award tiers: Light, Standard, and Flex. On the surface, mileage prices aren't going up. In practice, the product you're buying has just gotten significantly worse.
Here's what the new Business Class tiers look like on a Paris to New York redemption:
Business Light - 60,000 miles: No lounge access, non-changeable, non-refundable, one checked bag, paid seat selection
Business Standard - 75,000 miles: Lounge access included, changes permitted for €70
Business Flex - 110,000 miles: Lounge access included, free changes and cancellations
So to get what you'd currently receive as standard on a Business Class award - lounge access, flexibility to cancel - you now need 75,000 miles instead of 60,000. That's a 25% increase in the real cost, dressed up as a new tier structure.
Business reward prices aren't increasing - but the cheapest tier now buys you a product stripped of the two things that make Business Class awards worth booking: lounge access and flexibility.

Why this unbundling stings more than a straightforward devaluation
There's an argument that tiered award pricing gives travellers more choice. But lounge access is a core part of the Business Class experience - not an add-on. Stripping it from the entry-level award feels like taking the window seat out of an aisle ticket.
The loss of flexibility is arguably worse. One of the biggest advantages of booking with miles rather than cash is the ability to cancel or change plans without a financial penalty. Business Light removes that entirely - so you'd be committing 60,000 miles to a non-refundable ticket with no lounge. That's a hard sell.
Economy and Premium Economy awards also get the Light/Standard/Flex treatment, though the stakes are lower. The one saving grace: if you hold Flying Blue or qualifying SkyTeam status, your status benefits still apply. And existing bookings are unaffected.
The bottom line
If you've been sitting on an Air France or KLM redemption, book it now. Once 8 September arrives, the same number of miles buys you a worse product. This is a textbook stealth devaluation - and one worth acting on before the window closes in just over two weeks.

🌟 Finnair Double Avios and Tier Points - Book by Wednesday 27th August

The double Tier Points are the sleeper hit of this promotion
Finnair Plus has launched a double Avios and double Tier Points promotion covering Economy, Premium Economy, and Business Class on eligible routes. To qualify, you need to book between 18 and 27 August 2026, with travel valid from now through 31 March 2027.
Finnair normally awards between 6 and 10 Tier Points per €1 of eligible spend depending on your status level. This promotion doubles that across the board - so a Basic member earns 12 per €1, while a Platinum Lumo member earns 20 per €1. Even paid seat selection and baggage on eligible bookings can earn double.
The Avios angle is useful for UK collectors because Avios transfer freely between Finnair Plus and British Airways Executive Club at a 1:1 ratio. So if you're stacking Avios across multiple programmes, a Finnair Business Class booking could generate a meaningful top-up - especially at higher spend levels.
Heads up: this promotion is restricted to selected routes, and some destinations have shorter travel windows than the main March 2027 end date. Check the specific dates for your route on the Finnair website before booking. The booking window closes Wednesday 27th August - that's less than a week away.
The bottom line
This isn't quite as generous as Finnair's promotion last year, but double Tier Points on top of double Avios is genuinely solid - particularly if you're working towards status or have a Business Class trip already planned. Use our BA Tier Point Calculator to see how a Finnair booking stacks up against your current status target.

✈️ American Airlines Brings Back Seatback Screens - And Adds More First Class Seats
Good news for BA passengers connecting across the US
American Airlines has announced a substantial upgrade of its narrowbody fleet - reversing its controversial decision to remove seatback entertainment screens and significantly expanding First Class and extra-legroom seating.
All new Airbus and Boeing aircraft delivered from 2028 will have seatback screens at every seat, featuring 4K displays, Bluetooth, USB-C fast charging, and Starlink Wi-Fi. Existing aircraft will be retrofitted, though the full rollout runs into the early 2030s - so don't expect an overnight transformation.
On seating, American currently runs around 25% First Class or Main Cabin Extra seats on narrowbody departures. That's going up to 40%. The A319 and A320 each gain an extra row of First Class; the A321neo and future Boeing 737 MAX 10 also get more premium seating. For BA Club members connecting onto American domestically in the US, that should mean better premium availability - especially on transatlantic codeshare itineraries.
If you want to check whether your specific American Airlines flight has the updated configuration before booking, SeatWiFi tracks Starlink rollout status and in-flight connectivity by exact flight - worth bookmarking ahead of any US domestic connection.
The bottom line
American domestic First Class is a long way from long-haul Business, but it's a meaningful upgrade after crossing the Atlantic. The screens and extra premium seats are welcome - just don't hold your breath for the retrofit to reach your specific flight anytime soon. Think 2028 onwards for new aircraft, later for the wider fleet.

🚨 Deal Alert: Emirates 25% Bonus on Skywards Miles - Ends Tonight
Emirates Skywards is running a 25% bonus on purchased Skywards miles - and it expires tonight. If you've been eyeing an Emirates redemption and need to top up your balance, this is the moment. The same 25% bonus is available on Emirates Business Rewards. Use our Emirates Miles Calculator to check whether buying miles at this price makes sense for your target redemption before committing.
Warning: Buying miles only makes sense if you have a specific redemption in mind at a good rate. Don't stockpile miles speculatively - programmes devalue, and cash in the bank is always more flexible than miles in an account.
🚨 Deal Alert: GHA Discovery Status Match - Ends Very Soon
GHA DISCOVERY, the loyalty scheme for Global Hotel Alliance, has been running a generous status match this summer - including top tier Titanium. You can match from your existing hotel elite status OR from any eligible Visa or Mastercard (not Amex for Europeans) credit card. This offer has been running through the summer and is ending soon - check the GHA Discovery website directly for the current deadline and eligibility before it disappears.
GHA covers over 40 hotel brands across more than 800 properties worldwide, so Titanium status opens up meaningful benefits if you stay across independent luxury collections. Worth a look if you hold status elsewhere and want to extend your coverage.

🌎 Trivia Reveal
The answer is 🟡 75,000 miles. Under Flying Blue's new structure launching 8 September, Business Standard on Paris to New York costs 75,000 miles - 25% more than the entry-level Business Light at 60,000. Business Light gets you no lounge access, no changes, and no refunds. Standard is the minimum tier that preserves anything close to the current Business Class experience - though changes still cost €70. Only the 110,000-mile Flex tier gives you genuinely free cancellations.
💬 Quick Question
Flying Blue's unbundling mirrors what Lufthansa's Miles & More programme already did - stripping flexibility from cheaper awards. Are you worried other programmes will follow suit, or do you think British Airways Avios is next? Hit reply and let me know - I read every response and it genuinely shapes what we cover next.

That's it for today - but don't forget: the Emirates 25% Skywards bonus expires tonight. If you need miles for an upcoming redemption, this is your last window. And if you're sitting on a Flying Blue Business Class redemption, book it before 8 September - after that, the same miles buy you a stripped-back product with no lounge and no flexibility. Don't let the deadline sneak up on you.
