Qatar Airways Launch Massive 60% Avios Bonus Deal - Is It Worth It?
A detailed look at Qatar's latest Avios promotion and whether you should take advantage
Qatar Airways has just launched their latest buy Avios promotion, offering up to 60% bonus Avios when purchasing points through their programme. After diving deeper into the numbers using our Avios Balance Booster calculator, there's actually some decent value to be found - particularly at the higher tiers.
Let's break down the updated numbers:
Qatar Airways Offer (until 28th November 2024):
Best value tier: 50,000 Avios + 60% bonus = 80,000 Avios for £875
Cost per Avios: 1.09p
Avios per £: 91
The value gets even more interesting at higher amounts:
100,000 + 60% = 160,000 Avios for £1,750 (1.09p per Avios)
200,000 + 60% = 320,000 Avios for £3,500 (1.09p per Avios)
The lower tiers aren't as competitive:
Small purchases (1,000-2,000 Avios): No bonus (2.20p per Avios)
Mid-tier purchases (3,000-25,000): 20% bonus (1.54-1.83p per Avios)
Higher mid-tier (26,000-48,000): 40% bonus (1.25p per Avios)
How does this compare to other options?
Still not as good as BA's boost options if you have eligible transactions:
BA 3x boost: 0.92p per Avios
BA 2x boost: 0.94p per Avios
BA 1x boost: 0.96p per Avios
But better than:
BA direct purchase: from 1.77p to 2.45p per Avios
Finnair Plus: Generally around 1.47p per Avios
My verdict? This offer is actually more competitive than first appeared, particularly at the higher tiers. While BA's boost option still offers better value if you have eligible transactions, this Qatar promotion could be worth considering if:
You need a large number of Avios (50,000+)
You don't have eligible BA transactions to boost
You have a specific redemption in mind
Top tip: Before making any purchase, I'd recommend:
Check if you have any eligible BA transactions for boosting first
Use our Smart Redemptions tool to verify the value you'll get from your intended redemption
Consider whether credit card sign-up bonuses might be a better option (check our guide to the best Avios-earning credit cards)
Remember: The 60% bonus drops to 50% from November 29th, so if you're planning to take advantage of this offer, act before then to get the best value.
Safe travels, Jack
