✈️ SAS Just Brought Back Its BA Status Match - and the SkyTeam Access Is Bigger Than It Looks
Up to 23 months of Elite Plus perks for a one-off fee
SAS EuroBonus has quietly relaunched its status match for British Airways Club members - and the timing is interesting. With BA's own tier point requirements making status harder to hold for many UK flyers, paying a flat fee to buy into SkyTeam Elite Plus for almost two years is genuinely worth a look.
Here's how the fees break down:
BA Bronze to SAS Silver Elite: €89
BA Silver to SAS Gold Elite Plus: €199
The key detail is duration. Your matched status could last up to 23 months, potentially running all the way to September 2028.
Why the Silver-to-Gold match at €199 is the sweet spot
For BA Silver members, the €199 Gold Elite Plus match is probably the most compelling. SkyTeam Elite Plus gets you lounge access, priority check-in, extra baggage allowance and priority boarding across participating SkyTeam carriers, which includes Air France, KLM and Delta.
BA Gold members should check the SAS page for current Diamond pricing before deciding. We have not confirmed the Diamond fee here, so do not assume it matches the Gold price.
There is currently no published closing date on the SAS status match offer - but past iterations have ended without much notice.
The bottom line
This is a direct route into SkyTeam Elite Plus perks for up to 23 months, for a one-off fee. If you're a BA Silver member who has been flying more Air France, KLM or Delta routes lately, or who simply wants a lounge card that works across more of Europe, €199 for up to 23 months of Elite Plus is hard to argue with. Apply via the SAS EuroBonus status match website directly.
🏨 Hyatt Finally Lets You Move Points Online - No More PDF Forms
Couples and friends can now pool towards a luxury stay in 24 hours
For years, transferring World of Hyatt points to another member meant downloading a PDF form, filling it in and emailing it off to Hyatt, then waiting. As of 15th October 2026, members can transfer points directly through the Hyatt website.
The rules to know:
Transfers are made online through the Hyatt website, live from 15th October 2026
Annual cap of 525,000 points sent and 525,000 points received
The practical use case is obvious. Say you and your partner each have 20,000 Hyatt points in separate accounts. Combining them for a 40,000-point stay used to be a faff. Now it takes a few clicks online.
The bottom line
This won't change the game for solo collectors, but for couples, families and travelling duos who accumulate points in separate accounts, it removes one of Hyatt's most irritating friction points. Hyatt's programme is already strong - this just makes it more practical for real-world use.
🌟 Star Alliance Gets a New UK Debit Card Option - Miles & More Goes Plastic
Lufthansa's programme quietly launched a UK debit card - here's who it suits
If you collect Miles & More - Lufthansa's frequent flyer programme covering Star Alliance partners including Swiss, Austrian and Brussels Airlines - there's now a UK debit card option available. This is a notable gap-filler for UK collectors who want to earn on everyday spending towards Star Alliance redemptions without taking out a credit card.
The Miles & More programme covers a broad range of Star Alliance carriers, and earned miles can be used for flights across the alliance - including to destinations well served from UK airports like LHR and LGW. If you're already collecting Avios through BA but want a second earning stream that points towards Lufthansa Business Class or SWISS First, this is worth investigating.
For a full comparison of UK cards that earn Star Alliance miles, our credit card comparison tool shows you current earning rates side by side.
The bottom line
Most UK points collectors are firmly in the Avios camp, but if Lufthansa Business Class or Star Alliance redemptions are on your radar, having a dedicated UK earning card for Miles & More now makes that a more realistic goal from everyday spending.
🚨 Deal Alert: Qatar Airways 60% Avios Bonus - Expires Tonight
The Qatar Airways Privilege Club buy-Avios promotion ends tonight, 19th October 2026. Award Travel Finder lists the 60% bonus as expiring today. At Qatar's base price for Avios purchases, the bonus works out at roughly 1.1p per Avios at current exchange rates. Check the Qatar Privilege Club page for the minimum purchase that qualifies before you buy.
Buying Avios rarely beats earning them. This only makes sense if you're a short stack away from a specific redemption. Use our Buy Avios Calculator to check whether purchasing makes sense for your situation before committing.
Compare before you buy, and avoid buying Avios speculatively. Only do it if you have a specific flight or upgrade already in mind.
🚨 Deal Alert: Hilton's 120% Buy Points Bonus - Best Rate This Year
Separately, Hilton Honors is running a 120% bonus on purchased Hilton points, valid until 21st November. That's 33 days away, so less urgency than the Qatar deal - but worth flagging because a 120% bonus is unusually generous for Hilton. If you're eyeing a Hilton stay - say a Conrad or a Waldorf property - and you're a little short, this is one of the better buy-points moments of the year.
Warning: Buying hotel points is rarely the most efficient way to accumulate a balance. Calculate the cash value of the stay you're targeting first. Hilton points are generally worth around 0.4-0.5p each on premium redemptions, so the maths only works if you're unlocking a room that costs significantly more in cash than the points purchase price.
🌎 Trivia Reveal
The answer is 🔴 Air France. Air France is a SkyTeam member, so SAS EuroBonus status unlocks SkyTeam Elite Plus benefits when you fly Air France. Virgin Atlantic is not in an alliance, and Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines are Star Alliance members, so SAS status does not reach them.
💬 Quick Question
If you're a BA Club member, would you pay €199 for 23 months of SkyTeam Elite Plus status via SAS? Vote in the poll above, or hit reply. I read every response and I'm curious whether UK readers see this as a bargain or an awkward compromise.
That's it for today's issue - but don't let the day slip by without checking the Qatar Airways 60% Avios bonus. It closes tonight, and if you're a few thousand Avios short of a Business Class redemption, 1.1p per Avios with a free transfer to your BA account is a decent price to pay. Don't leave it till after dinner.
