Uber for Business Doubles Avios Across Reserve, Rides and Eats

Uber for Business has expanded its Avios rewards scheme, and the headline number is a genuinely large one: 6 Avios per £1 on Uber Reserve bookings made through a business profile. The partnership itself is documented on the Avios Uber partner page and on the Uber for Business site, though as I write this neither page has published the new business-profile rate table. The rates below come from the announcement Uber for Business made on the record earlier this month, and I will swap in the official link once it goes live.

Uber for Business users have earned double Avios on UK rides since October 2024. That was a simple deal: standard rate doubled, one category, done. What has changed is that the doubling now applies across the whole tiered structure Uber introduced in June, rather than just to rides.

Here are the new business-profile rates:

Andrew Laughlan, head of enterprise UK at Uber for Business, framed the expansion as rewarding the rest of the app rather than just the rides, which is a fair description of what has happened here. Uber Eats and premium vehicles were not part of the original business deal at all.

This is where the expansion becomes interesting rather than just nice. Uber overhauled its consumer Avios earning on 15 June 2026, moving from a flat rate to a tiered one. The current consumer rates are published on the British Airways Club Uber page, and the business rates are exactly double them across every category:

Worth noting for completeness: rail and Eurostar tickets booked through the Uber app earn 2 Avios per £1 on a personal profile. The business announcement did not mention trains, so I would not assume a doubled rate applies there until somebody confirms it.

Standard UberX journeys that are not to or from an airport, and are not booked through Reserve, earn nothing. That was true before June and it is still true now. Doubling zero gets you zero.

This matters more than the headline rate does, because the ordinary weekday hop across town is exactly what most people use Uber for. The new structure is deliberately pushing you towards pre-booking and towards more expensive vehicles, and the business rates simply amplify that push. If your work travel is mostly short unplanned UberX rides, this announcement changes nothing whatsoever for you.

The other limitation is geographic. Avios earning with Uber only applies in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Trips abroad earn nothing, which I find mildly irritating given that a work trip is precisely when you are most likely to be in a taxi somewhere unfamiliar.

I value Avios at around 1p each for planning purposes, which is a figure I can usually beat with a bit of effort on the right redemption. On that basis:

A 6% return on ground transport is very strong. For context, the best UK Avios credit cards earn between 1 and 1.5 Avios per £1 on general spend. You are getting four to six times that rate here, on a category most people were not earning anything meaningful on before.

Let me put some real numbers on it. Say you spend £200 a month on pre-booked Uber Reserve trips for work. That is £2,400 a year, earning 14,400 Avios. Pay for those trips with a Barclaycard Avios Plus card at 1.5 Avios per £1 and you add another 3,600 Avios on top, for a total of 18,000 Avios a year from ground transport alone.

What does 18,000 Avios buy? Using live pricing, a one-way Club Europe seat from Heathrow to Amsterdam costs 16,500 Avios plus £15 in off-peak season. So a year of pre-booked work taxis, paid on the right card, gets you into the front cabin to Amsterdam with change left over. The Uber Avios and the card Avios are separate earnings, so the card you pay with genuinely matters. If your business Uber spend is going on a debit card or a cashback card, you are leaving the easiest part of this on the table.

My own setup runs business travel through Amex Business Gold where it is accepted, and Capital on Tap where it is not. Uber accepts Amex in the UK, so the Amex route works for the rides themselves.

The Uber for Business release states that Avios can be converted into Nectar points on a 1:1 basis. That is technically accurate on the ratio and quite misleading on the value, so it is worth being precise about.

Yes, 400 Avios converts into 400 Nectar points. But a Nectar point is worth 0.5p when you spend it at Sainsbury's or Argos, so you are cashing out your Avios at 0.5p each. If you redeem the same Avios on a flight at 1p or better, you have just halved your own value by shopping with them instead.

The ratio going the other way is 400 Nectar points for 250 Avios, which is a much better deal and the direction I would actually recommend. It works out at buying Avios for roughly 0.8p each, and periodic transfer bonuses improve that further. Separately from the business expansion, Avios and Uber are running a promotion until 13 September 2026. Every eligible Uber trip completed in that window earns entries into a draw for 1 million Avios, with ten further prizes of 100,000 Avios each. Premium rides, trains and airport trips count as two entries, and Uber Reserve trips count as three.

There is also a 100 bonus Avios payment for your first eligible trip within 30 days of linking your accounts. Uber Eats orders do not qualify for the draw, and the trip has to be completed inside the promotional window rather than just booked. Full terms sit on the Avios Uber page.

I would not restructure my travel around a prize draw, but if you were going to book a car to the airport anyway, linking your accounts first costs you nothing.

This is the question that decides whether any of the above is relevant to you, and the answer is more encouraging than most people assume.

To use a business profile you have to be invited to join an organisation's Uber for Business account. If you are employed somewhere that already runs one, you toggle to the business profile in the app and you are done.

If you are not, you can set the account up yourself. Uber for Business states plainly on its own site that there are no fees and no monthly fixed costs for corporate use, and you can get started with no upfront costs. For a limited company director or a sole trader with genuine business travel, that is a free administrative task that doubles your Avios rate on every qualifying journey. I struggle to think of a reason not to do it.

One thing to be careful about: your Uber account and your British Airways Club account must be in the same name, and only one Uber account can be linked to one BA Club account. If you are already collecting Avios on a personal profile, the link carries across rather than needing a second one.

Airport journeys now earn 4 Avios per £1 on a business profile, which makes the ride to the terminal one of the better earning categories in the whole scheme. The obvious way to make that ride worth more is simply to leave at the right time rather than sitting airside for three hours.

I like this more than I expected to. The June restructure was, for most casual users, a downgrade dressed up as a refinement, and I said as much at the time. Standard UberX rides earning nothing is a real loss for a lot of people.

But the business side of it is now the strongest ground transport earning rate I am aware of in the UK, and it is available for free to anyone with a company, however small. Six Avios per £1 on a pre-booked car is the sort of rate that makes me change behaviour, and behaviour change is exactly what Uber is buying here. I am pre-booking more than I used to, which is presumably the entire point.

The honest limitation is that this rewards people who were already spending money on premium ground transport. If you are booking Exec cars and pre-arranged airport transfers because your work pays for them, this is excellent news. If you are choosing to spend more on a car in order to earn Avios, you are almost certainly losing money on the arithmetic. A 6% return on spend you would not otherwise have made is not a return at all.

Work out where you honestly sit on that line, then act accordingly.
