Avios has launched a 20% transfer bonus on conversions between Nectar points and Avios, running until 31 October 2026. The bonus works in both directions - Nectar into Avios and Avios into Nectar - though the two routes are very different in value. If you have a balance of Nectar points sitting unused, this is one of the best rates you will get for converting them into flight rewards.

Nectar to Avios: how the bonus changes the maths

The standard conversion rate is 400 Nectar points to 250 Avios. That has not changed. Because a Nectar point is worth 0.5p at Sainsbury's, Argos and elsewhere, you are normally giving up £2 of shopping credit in exchange for 250 Avios - effectively buying Avios at 0.8p each. That is already a reasonable rate. With the 20% bonus applied, every 400 Nectar points now produces 300 Avios instead of 250. The same £2 of Nectar credit now buys you 300 Avios, dropping the effective cost to 0.67p per Avios. There is no cap on the bonus when converting from Nectar into Avios, so the offer applies to your entire Nectar balance.

  • Standard rate: 400 Nectar points = 250 Avios (0.8p per Avios)

  • Bonus rate: 400 Nectar points = 300 Avios (0.67p per Avios)

  • Bonus runs until 31 October 2026

  • Applies to both one-off manual transfers and auto-conversions

  • No cap on the Nectar-to-Avios side - your full balance qualifies

What is 0.67p per Avios actually worth?

The key question is whether 0.67p per Avios represents good value for your Nectar balance. The answer depends on how you intend to spend the Avios you receive. We generally target 1p or more per Avios through premium cabin redemptions - for example, business class short-haul or long-haul seats booked on partner airlines. At 1p, 300 Avios would be worth £3, meaning you have extracted 50% more value from that £2 of Nectar credit just by routing it through the right flight redemption. You can use the Avios Value Calculator to model what your specific Avios balance is likely to be worth before committing to a transfer.

Worked example: if you have 8,000 Nectar points (worth £40 at Sainsbury's), you would normally receive 5,000 Avios at the standard rate. With the 20% bonus, you receive 6,000 Avios. Used well on a short-haul Avios redemption at 1p each, that is £60 of flight value from a £40 Nectar balance - a genuine uplift if premium cabin seats are on your radar.

How to take advantage of the Nectar-to-Avios bonus

The process is straightforward. Head to avios.com and link your Nectar and Avios accounts if you have not already done so. You can then choose to do a one-off manual transfer or set up an auto-conversion so that future Nectar points earned are swept across automatically. Both routes qualify for the 20% bonus during the promotional period.

One important note on timing: the bonus Avios will not arrive with your original transfer. Based on previous promotions, the top-up can take a meaningful amount of time to post, so do not be alarmed if your account shows only the base amount immediately after converting.

Avios to Nectar: the bonus exists but the value remains low

The offer also runs in reverse: you can convert Avios into Nectar points with a 20% bonus until 31 October. The standard rate is 1 Avios = 1 Nectar point, and as each Nectar point is worth 0.5p, that means you normally get 0.5p per Avios - roughly half what a well-placed flight redemption returns. With the 20% bonus applied, that rises to 0.6p per Avios. Better, but still well below the 1p+ you should be targeting for flight value.

There are also two important restrictions on this side of the deal. First, there is a cap: the maximum bonus you can receive when converting Avios into Nectar is 10,000 Nectar points, which means the 20% uplift only applies to the first 50,000 Avios you transfer. Second - and more importantly - Avios is a genuinely useful currency for flight and upgrade redemptions, and converting to Nectar points is largely irreversible. Think carefully before emptying an Avios balance you might later wish you had kept for flights.

Things to watch before you convert
  • The bonus Avios (or Nectar points) post in arrears - not instantly with the original transfer

  • On the Avios-to-Nectar side, the bonus is capped at 10,000 Nectar points (equivalent to the first 50,000 Avios transferred)

  • Converting Avios into Nectar at 0.6p each is better than spending Avios on seat selection fees or Avios Hotels (typically ~0.5p), but still well below flight redemption value

  • If a family member has a dormant Avios balance, converting their Avios into their linked Nectar account is a practical way to recapture some value

  • The promotion ends 31 October 2026 - do not assume it will be extended

Frequently asked questions

How many Avios do I get per Nectar point with the 20% bonus?

The standard rate is 400 Nectar points to 250 Avios. With the 20% bonus, 400 Nectar points produces 300 Avios. There is no cap on this side of the conversion.

Is it worth converting Nectar points to Avios?

At 0.67p per Avios during the bonus period, the conversion is good value if you have a plan to use the Avios on premium cabin flight redemptions where you can extract 1p or more per point. If you would spend them on economy flights or ancillaries, the margin over just keeping your Nectar credit for Sainsbury's shopping becomes much thinner.

Does the 20% Nectar-to-Avios bonus apply to auto-conversions?

Yes. Both manual one-off transfers and existing auto-conversion setups are eligible for the 20% bonus. If you already have auto-conversion switched on, you do not need to do anything - the bonus will apply automatically.

When does the Nectar Avios transfer bonus end?

The promotion runs until 31 October 2026. That is 26 days from today, so there is a reasonable window - but do not leave it until the last minute, as the bonus Avios post in arrears and previous offers have occasionally closed early.

The bottom line

The Nectar-to-Avios direction is the standout here. At 0.67p per Avios with no cap, this is one of the better rates available for accumulating Avios without flying or holding a rewards credit card. If you have Nectar points sitting idle and a premium flight redemption in mind, converting before 31 October 2026 makes clear sense. The Avios-to-Nectar direction is a distant second - useful only for emptying small or dormant balances, and subject to a bonus cap equivalent to 50,000 Avios. Use the BA Avios Flight Calculator to check how far your converted Avios could take you before you decide.
