Royal Jordanian has opened a flash hotel status match for UK and EU residents, and it only runs until 7 November 2026. If you hold mid or top-tier status with almost any big hotel chain, you can pay US$149 for a year of Royal Club Gold Sparrow - which is oneworld Sapphire, the tier that gets you into BA's lounges.
And this is the easiest route into oneworld Sapphire I've seen. You don't need a single flight. You don't even need a hotel night: a free hotel account is enough to get Sapphire for US$248.
Last week I wrote that the regular Royal Jordanian match rules most of us out, and that hotel status was the one to wait for. Well, that wait was short. Here's who qualifies, how to apply in time and what to watch out for.
AT A GLANCE
What
Paid match from hotel status into Royal Club Gold Sparrow (oneworld Sapphire) or Silver Jay (oneworld Ruby) for 12 months
Who it's for
UK and EU residents with any hotel status - even a free account - and a few oneworld trips coming up
Cost / value
US$149 (about £112) for Sapphire with mid-tier hotel status, or US$248 (about £187) from entry-level or a free account
Deadline
7 November 2026 - and it can be pulled earlier

What Royal Jordanian is offering this week
WHAT // Until 7 November 2026, Royal Jordanian's Royal Club will match hotel status into its own tiers. The match is run by StatusMatch.com. There are three prices:
Mid or top-tier hotel status: Gold Sparrow (oneworld Sapphire) for US$149
Entry-level hotel status: Silver Jay (oneworld Ruby) for US$49
Entry-level, upgraded: straight to Gold Sparrow (Sapphire) for US$248
Platinum Hawk (oneworld Emerald) isn't on offer.
These hotel tiers get Sapphire for US$149:
Marriott Bonvoy: Gold Elite, Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite, Ambassador Elite
Hilton Honors: Gold, Diamond
IHG One Rewards: Gold Elite, Platinum Elite, Diamond Elite, Royal Ambassador
Accor ALL: Gold, Platinum, Diamond
World of Hyatt: Explorist, Globalist
Radisson Rewards: Premium, VIP
Meliá Rewards: Gold, Platinum
GHA Discovery: Platinum, Titanium
Wyndham Rewards: Platinum, Diamond
Shangri-La Golden Circle: Jade, Diamond
Langham Brilliant: Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire
I Prefer Hotel Rewards: Gold, Titanium
How easy is it? Very. The entry tiers - Marriott Silver Elite, Hilton Silver, IHG Silver Elite, Accor Silver, Hyatt Discoverist, Wyndham Gold, GHA Gold and Radisson Rewards Club - can still get Sapphire through the US$248 upgrade. Radisson Rewards Club is the basic tier you get the day you join, and joining is free. So in practice, any UK resident can sign up to Radisson today, match, and hold oneworld Sapphire within a week - without staying a night or flying a mile.
And if you have a UK Amex Platinum, you already have Hilton Honors Gold as a card benefit, which puts you in the US$149 group. See our Amex Platinum hotel status guide for how to switch it on, or apply for Amex Platinum here for future windows - it won't arrive in time for this one.
The hotel offer is open to residents of the UK and the EU.
How to apply:
Join Royal Club for free and note your membership number. No hotel status? Join Radisson Rewards (free) first.
Go to the Royal Jordanian status match page, choose your hotel programme and upload proof of your status (a screenshot of your account is the usual proof).
Pay by card - it needs to be a card issued in the UK or EU. You should hear within about three days, but the status can take up to five working days to show, so apply now rather than on the 7th.
WHY IT MATTERS // Sapphire is where oneworld lounge access starts. Royal Jordanian's Royal Club benefits table says Gold Sparrow gets lounge access with one guest when you fly Royal Jordanian or oneworld, plus priority check-in, extra baggage and priority on the waitlist. For a UK flyer that means BA's lounges at Heathrow and Gatwick on a BA flight - even short-haul in economy.
This is the first time in a while that UK hotel loyalists, rather than airline elites, can get in. Your nights at Marriott or Hilton have never bought you a lounge at Terminal 5 before.

Your hotel status can now open an airline lounge door (illustrative image)

Is US$149 worth it?
US$149 is roughly £112 at today's rates. Pay with a card that doesn't add a foreign transaction fee, such as Curve or Revolut, or you'll lose another few pounds on the conversion.
To put it in BA terms: Sapphire is the same alliance tier as BA Silver, which now needs 7,500 tier points in a membership year. Our BA tier point calculator will show you how far that is for most of us. Gold Sparrow isn't BA Silver - you don't get BA perks like free seat selection - but for lounges it does the job.
A simple break-even: if a lounge visit is worth £20 to you, £112 pays for itself in six visits. Two or three oneworld return trips with a connection gets you there. Check which lounges you'd get on your routes with our lounge access finder.
If you only have entry-level status, the choice is US$49 for Silver Jay (Ruby) or US$248 (about £187) for Sapphire. Ruby gets you priority check-in and preferred seating on oneworld, but no lounges. For lounges, pay the US$248 - or, if you can, earn mid-tier hotel status first. For a frequent oneworld flyer, even £187 for a year of BA lounges is good value.

The catches
One match only. If you've done a Royal Jordanian status match before, you most likely can't do it again. That includes readers who used the earlier hotel windows we covered in 2025.
Card status should be fine - but it's not guaranteed. Royal Jordanian's hotel table accepts entry tiers that need no stays at all, so I'd expect hotel status from a credit card (like the Hilton Gold from Amex Platinum) to be accepted. StatusMatch.com still reviews every application, and it can decline any of them.
No priority boarding on BA. Royal Jordanian's own benefits table says Gold Sparrow priority boarding applies on oneworld flights excluding British Airways. Lounges and priority check-in still work on BA.
No upgrade voucher, and 12 months only. Matched members don't get the upgrade vouchers that normally come with Gold Sparrow. Status lasts 12 months from approval. To keep Gold Sparrow after that, Royal Club asks for 26 eligible oneworld segments within 12 months - realistically, that means moving your oneworld flying away from BA. And once a flight is credited to Royal Club, you can't move those miles to BA later.
💡 WHAT TO ACTUALLY DO
Mid-tier hotel status (Marriott Gold, Hilton Gold, IHG Gold and the like)? Get Sapphire for US$149. No hotel status? Join Radisson Rewards for free, then match to Sapphire for US$248. Either way, apply today, not on 7 November. Already BA Silver or above? You already have Sapphire, so save your money. Done an RJ match before? Skip it.

My take
In my last Royal Jordanian piece I said the one status I hold that I fully earned is Marriott Bonvoy Titanium, and that the hotel route was the one to watch. Titanium is well above the Gold Elite bar, so on paper I'd qualify this week.
But I'm not sure I need it. I hold BA Silver at the moment, which is already oneworld Sapphire, so Gold Sparrow would just give me the same lounges twice. Where it would be useful is as insurance - if my BA Silver lapses, a year of Sapphire for £112 is a lot cheaper than earning 7,500 tier points.
The bigger point is what this match says about how loyalty works now. Hotel status and airline status used to live in separate worlds. A match like this turns hotel nights into a kind of currency that can buy you comfort at the airport. If you've put the nights into Marriott or Hilton this year, that's value you didn't know you had.
I'd also say: don't let the deadline rush you into buying something you won't use. £112 is cheap for Sapphire, but it's still £112 if you only fly oneworld once next year.

My verdict
If you live in the UK or EU and have two or more oneworld trips coming up, this is the easiest way into oneworld Sapphire you'll see this year. Mid-tier hotel status gets you there for US$149, and anyone can get there for US$248 with a free Radisson account. Apply today - the window closes on 7 November and approval can take five working days. If you already have BA Silver, or you've matched with Royal Jordanian before, sit this one out.
Once you have Sapphire, Award Travel Finder will help you find oneworld award seats to use it on. I'll update this piece if the terms change before the deadline. If you apply, let me know how you get on - just reply, or message us on Instagram.
